Varanasi is a city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It was the historical capital of the Gupta Empire and remains a spiritual hub for Hindus, making it one of India's most sacred and important locations.
Visiting Varanasi means immersing yourself in a unique mix of culture, history, and spirituality. The city is home to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple as well as one of the world's oldest libraries, with books reaching back to the 16th century!
It also features some of the most magnificent architecture in India, including the famous Ganges Riverfront Boardwalks.
A two-day vacation will give you enough time to explore this historic city and taste some wonderful local cuisine!
Best places to visit in Varanasi
Ganges River
The Ganges River, named after the Hindu goddess Ganga, is one of India's most known natural beauties. People travel from all over the world to purify themselves at Varanasi. When you spend some time sightseeing, you will have a delightful experience. You'll feel more connected to Hindu culture after participating in the peaceful activities there.
Dasaswamedh Ghat
The Dasaswamedh Ghat's bustling atmosphere makes it one of the top spots to visit in Varanasi. This tourist attraction is a whirlwind of flower vendors selling vibrant blossoms, boat operators selling Ganges River rides, and sadhus (holy men) wearing face paint. You can attend Ganga Aarti at 7 pm to have an incredible experience.
Ramnagar Fort
Varanasi is one of the few places in India that does not have a fort. Ramnagar Fort is located about 14 kilometres from the city centre.
After exploring the museum's archaeological treasures, visit the fort's temples, one of which honours Veda Vyasa, author of the Mahabharata and other key Hindu epics.
There are many other places in Varanasi like Manikarnika Ghat, Damek Stupa, Darbhanga Ghat, and Shivala Ghat. You’ll have a blissful experience once you visit this place.
Let’s discuss a practical plan that you can execute quickly in two days!
Varanasi two-day itinerary: a suggested action plan for two days
Two days in Varanasi is the perfect time to explore the place and have a wonderful experience. Aside from seeing ghats and temples, there are many other attractions that may be visited in two days.
You can take a boat ride to see all of the ghats, go temple touring, go shopping, and enjoy local street food. You can go to any of the places mentioned above.
Day 1
You can plan a visit to Kashi Vishwanath Temple. This is one of the most famous temples. Due to security reasons, you are not allowed to carry any of the electronic devices inside the temple.
Ramnagar Fort, which is about 15-20 kilometres from the city, might be the next stop. A section of the fort has been converted into a museum, which showcases relics and antiques from the time when Kashi Naresh dwelt in the sandstone palace. It is a wonderful place where you can spend your evening.
You must experience the exquisite Ganga aarti, by Hindu Priests, in the evening at Dashashwamedh ghat. The magnificent evening prayer at the ghat is spectacular, and you must attend it if you visit there.
Day 2
A tour to Varanasi is pointless if you don't see the ghats. A boat ride along the Varanasi Ghats is a must. This is the most authentic way to explore the ghats.
Another location is Assi ghat, which is at the end of all the ghats. Nicer riverside eateries and elegant cafes can be found here. You must try the unique and well-known masala chai served here.
Sarnath is another popular location to visit in Varanasi in two days. This location is 10 kilometres from the city. There are several Stupas, an archaeological museum, an Ashoka pillar, and a Buddha statue.
You can also shop for Banarasi silk. Silk clothing is available at a variety of establishments throughout the city. However, Godowlia market is the most well-known shopping destination in Varanasi.
Here one can easily discover Banarasi dupattas, salwar kameez, sarees and fabric in many prints, and colours on any budget. You can even sample the market's delicious local cuisine.
How to travel to Varanasi
Varanasi is easily accessible due to its excellent connectivity. You can get there via a variety of ways of transportation.
By Flight
- Varanasi's Lal Bahadur Shastri airport is well connected to major cities such as Mumbai and Delhi. The airport is around an hour away from the city. You can hire a cab to the city.
By Bus
- To get there, you can take private air-conditioned buses or UP's state transport buses.
By Train
- Both the Varanasi junction railway station and the Manduadih railway station are in the heart of the city. Trains to these cities are readily available throughout India.
If you want to go somewhere affordable and calm, Varanasi is a good option. It is the most gorgeous spot, with all of the holy sensations. You must first determine your budget and then organise your trip accordingly.
